Bloom 2014

Urban Greening - Overall Winner

We had 200 square metres of space to create a garden that would contain multiple features. Our Urban Greening theme kept us busy with added elements of green roofs and a living wall not to mention a wide variety of plants and trees! This was the first green wall to be used in a Bloom garden, it was based on a city skyline at night. Designing the garden and having many bespoke elements made from scratch was truly enjoyable. We had our white concrete paving slabs made just for this garden and also all the steel structures including the infinity pools with black water for reflective calm! Our sponsor Renault brought their electric car into the design and we created a carport with a green roof contributing to reducing our carbon footprint! The Renault Zoe made people stop and think about the green theme while adding an element of fun to the design. Graffiti was a very strong design element and gave the garden the city edge that it needed! With powerful colours, which were all preplanned to tie in with the planting plan, the artwork was a great contrast within the garden. It was the first time that graffiti was used in a Bloom show garden. Another fun element were the double yellow lines painted on with rubber paint. This section represented the street outside the space and helped to shape the theme. The wild natural planting within the front body of the garden represented nature sweeping in to the city and hence the theme 'Urban Greening!'
